Ad Verbrugge (1967) is Professor at the Free University of Amsterdam, where he teaches social and cultural philosophy at the VU Institute for the Study of Religion, Culture and Society. Since 2010, he has also been teaching philosophy of the economy at the Free University’s School of Economics and Business Administration.
Professor Verbrugge’s work is characterized by a unique and systematic reflection on (modern) human life and society and by an explicit social involvement, resulting in concrete analyses of contemporary phenomena and even activism, as in the case of education. His philosophic approach focuses on cultural forces in which themes such as virtuality, globalization and alienation play an important role.
Professor Verbrugge has won the academic educational price for best teacher both at the University of Leiden (2002) and at the University of Amsterdam (2008).
